Recycling Education
Bremer County coordinates a recycling
program with participating cities. Starting in 1990, Bremer
County purchased equipment such as dumpsters and recycling
roll-off bins for the cities and the materials collected
have been transported to the Bremer County Recycling
Center. At the center the materials are baled or placed in
Gaylord boxes and sold to market.
As part of the program, Bremer County
offers free educational programs to Bremer County Schools,
civic groups and youth groups. A typical year finds the
recycling coordinator giving 70 education programs while
reaching 1600 people. Activities range from learning about
composting to taking a fieldtrip to the landfill. A list of
activities is included below. The Recycling Coordinator is
housed with Bremer County Conservation in Tripoli. For more
information about the education programs or tours of the
Bremer County Landfill, Regional Collection Center, and
Bremer County Recycling Center, please call Kate Mortensen,
Bremer County Recycling Coordinator at (319) 882-4742.
